For over 30 years we’ve provided design and construction management services that encompass every stage, from project feasibility through to procurement and delivery.

A passion for plastering becomes a business

Perry Richardson began his career in plastering in 1980, working hands-on across residential and commercial projects. In 1984, he took the leap and founded A1 Interiors—starting with little more than a plasterer’s toolkit and a strong belief in doing things properly. With a focus on quality, hard work, and strong relationships, Perry built a business that would go on to become one of Queensland’s most respected interior linings contractors.

1980–1984

Launch of A1 Passive Fire

In 1997, A1 Passive Fire was born as a natural extension of A1 Interiors’ commitment to safety and excellence. This new division quickly grew, offering expert passive fire protection services. Its launch marked an exciting step forward—broadening the company’s capabilities while staying true to its hands-on, quality-driven roots. Over the years, we’ve been fortunate to contribute to a range of significant projects—including the high-profile Transcity Legacy Way Tunnel—further expanding our expertise and reach.

1997

Leadership in the Industry

With decades of experience under his belt, Perry became actively involved in shaping the future of the wall and ceiling industry. A1 Interiors has been a proud member of the Association of Wall and Ceiling Industries (AWCI) for over 30 years, and Perry has served two terms as State President and two as National President. His leadership and advocacy reflect the same values that drive the A1 team today: Respect, Accountability, Passion, and Continuous Improvement. During this time, Perry also established Proplaster Products, a supplier business that continues to support and strengthen the trade community.

2000s

Insurance Division Established

In 2010, A1 Interiors responded to growing demand in the insurance sector by launching a dedicated Insurance Repairs division. From minor patch jobs to complex major loss reinstatements, the team delivers high-quality, fully scoped repair works with a focus on responsiveness, accuracy, and efficiency. Backed by strong relationships with leading insurance builders and assessors, our team understands the urgency and detail required in every claim. Whether it’s water damage, fire, impact, or storm-related repairs, we work quickly and professionally—keeping clients informed and projects on track from first contact to final handover.
